I'm keeping him indoors, in a crate in the kitchen area, with the a/c yard as his only outdoor space for now. He's scared of other dogs and when one of them approaches him he goes into a barking frenzy that seems be about equal parts scare attempt and cry for help. He scared Bear and annoyed Bailey when I tried each of them with him one-on-one. He actually did better when I had him with four or five other dogs together with me in the kitchen. He found his way over to me and laid down, trusting me more than them. That's a start. He learned to do stairs and has settled down behind my chair in the office with five other dogs in the room. He should learn soon that no one is going to hurt him.
He seems to have separation anxiety and just anxiety in general. He needs to develop some self confidence. He also really needs a bath, but he doesn't trust me yet and he was just neutered, so his scrotum is being held together with dissolvable stitches and glue. No bath for at least a week.
With Bette, Maze, and the two new schnauzer pups coming in the last few days, controlled chaos has been the best we could manage lately. But new routines will be established pretty quickly I think, and things will settle down. The cold weather will help that in way, with everyone mostly inside, we will all have to learn to get along.
Cold weather be damned, Bailey and I went hiking again today. We covered five miles this time and saw a lot of deer and no people.
Bailey on point
The forest floor is covered with a thick layer of fallen leaves, but we know the trails well.
We probably saw 20 deer today, but this is the only picture I managed to get.
5.12 miles
