This is Maze's first visit since Della died and it brought back a lot of memories and emotions. We had identified Maze as the puppy most like Della in terms of personality way back when the litter was all still together. That assessment hasn't changed.
Wakanda was picked up by his new family early this afternoon. I'm sure that household has been active all day and will be for the foreseeable future. That leaves us with just the three female puppies, Storm, Elektra, and Rogue.
The two new schnauzer pups were quite barky yesterday evening in their crates. They would bark in unison at any nearby dog. I gave them both trazadone but I don't think it did much, if anything, to calm them down. I covered their crates with a blanket and they finally did settle down and were fairly quiet through the night. Bailey is the only dog I've allowed to interact with them directly so far. They would bark in her face but they submitted quickly if she showed them some teeth or put a paw on them. The best news about them is that another foster home has been found for one of them, so Apple Pie will be leaving us tomorrow morning.
Late this afternoon I got Bailey out for a brisk four mile hike ending just as it was getting dark. It was cold so we kept moving, which was good for me and it suits her walking style too. And we saw a good group of deer right at the end, making a great end of hike experience for her.
Dinner was after dark for everyone. Maze didn't want to eat but she did run with Norman and Bear for a while and then with Bailey. Hopefully everyone will sleep well tonight.
It's nice to have a Dane in the house again.
Wakanda looks so tiny in his crate for the trip to his new home.
The three sisters around the food dish.
Bailey kept the leash taut for the entire four miles.
The sun peaked out for a moment before it went down.
Four deer that we chased through the woods at the end of the hike.
Bailey has gotten very familiar with this route.
