Sunday tag team hiking

Sunday was the warmest day we've had in weeks and I had no obligations. I should have done yard work but I wanted to get some miles in and I had a lot of dogs who wanted to go along. I'm not sure if it's best termed tag team hiking or relay hiking, but I did three short walks coming home to swap out dogs in between.

I started out with the new boy, Cheese, and we did about 2.5 miles. He's definitely getting better on a leash. He doesn't pull at all, if anything he lags behind, perhaps not fully understanding how excited he's supposed to be by hiking in the woods. He's also gotten a lot better about being in his crate at night. He carries on a bit in the beginning and he did wake me at 3:00 a.m. this morning, but he quieted down again until I got up at 5:00. He's doing a lot better relating to the other dogs in the household too. All things considered, he's turned the corner and is doing very well.

The next leg of the walk was also around 2.5 miles, this time with Bailey and Elvis. Uneventful but enjoyable. They walk well together and Bailey had me moving at a faster pace than I did on either the first or third legs of the walk.

I took Bette on the final leg of the walk Sunday afternoon. I had been thinking of taking her and Maze together, and I think they would have walked well together, but Maze was on puppy sitting duty with Cheese in the dog yard and I selfishly didn't want to upset their peaceful and quiet co-existence. Maze is getting a lot of time running in the pasture every day anyway and I'll try to get her out for a hike later in the week when I've got someone else paired up with Cheese for the day.

Bette and I did a little over two miles, bringing my total distance for the day up to 7.12 miles. I wish I could do this much every day.

I booster him up onto a boulder, hoping for that heroic dog pose, but he was having none of it.

He did enjoy the walk though, and he really enjoys time with me.

We came across a good sized log across the trail. Bette stopped, unsure what we were going to do about it. When I stepped up, on, and over it, she hopped over it as well and we went on our way.

I just paused the tracking app at the end of each leg so it created one map of the entire 7+ mile hike.
