Weekend romps - Part 2 - Cheese update

We started out with Cheese crated next to Bear in the office. They barked at each other until I moved Bear downstairs. That helped a bit and I feel asleep Friday night in spite of Cheese still carrying on in his crate. I woke up about 11:30 p.m. and Clay told me that he had still been making noise, intermittently, and showed no signs of stopping. I got up and moved to the guest room with Cheese on a leash. I put the handle of the leash under a leg of the bed and put a dog bed on the floor for him. He went to sleep and I was up for another three hours or more before finally getting back to sleep. We were up again at 5:00 a.m. and it was time to start the day.

I started letting him outdoors with the other dogs today, off leash, and he seemed to be slowly adjusting to them. At least he learned not to annoy them to the point that they needed to correct him, and he did less of the "don't hurt me I'm just a puppy" screaming when one of them tried to engage with him. I took him in the van, along with Bailey, when I went to the dump this morning and then over to Green Dogs. He joined us all for the pasture romp in the afternoon and that was the first time he actually seemed to be enjoying himself here.

He has yet to poop outdoors, so I've been doing lots of laundry and cleanup of the crates and floors. I'm less concerned about that than I am about the separation anxiety, however. I have to go out Saturday evening and will leave him crated in the office again. We'll see how that goes. He seems to like Bear and Bailey, but I'm not sure they feel the same just yet. He's certainly comfortable with me now and he's beginning to make progress with the rest of the pack.

That's Cheese in the middle of Bette, Maze, and Bear on the run out to the pasture Saturday afternoon.

Part 3 coming later tonight
