Three dogs, one vet

I had a vet appointment for one dog today, Bremo, but I took three.

Hercules didn't actually see the vet, he just came along to get on the scales.  He's now up to 83 pounds and is looking good.  It's time to start working on an adoption for him.  He's also gotten less whiney and annoying at home.  Maybe because his body isn't starving any more now that it can actually process the food that he takes in.

I brought Zach along just for a follow up after his surgery, wanting to make sure he was ok.  He ended up getting the best news of the day in the form of his biopsy results, which showed no cancer in the spleen they had removed last week.  His incision looked good too.  He's still limping and he's still running a low fever.  He got one new medication, a second antibiotic.  When his eating is back to normal we'll get him started on an NSAID pain reliever, but for now it's just antibiotics and tramadol.

The appointment had originally been made for Cabell because his rabies vaccination was due, but he got that taken care of when he was stand-by blood donor for Zachary's surgery last week.  Bremo was due for his annual checkup and I really wanted to see what, if anything, I could do to make him more comfortable.  He's losing control of his back legs, the muscles are atrophied, and he's having increasing problems getting up and around.  He doesn't get up when everyone first goes out in the morning.  He waits until feeding time and then takes care of everything at once.

He got vaccinated and we did blood work, which was fine.  I got the ok to up his dose of Rimadyl and we are adding a third pain medication (Rimadyl, Gabapentin, and now Tramadol) to hopefully make him more comfortable.  He's also got an eye infection, probably due to allergies, that I need to be treating.  Because he's so sedentary now, he has put on weight, up to 101 pounds.  He and I both need to drop off 10 (well, 10 for him, more like 20 more for me).  I'll have to cut his food way back, which he won't like, so I may start giving him green beans and pumpkin to make up for it.
