Moo gets neutered and maybe more

Tuck was scheduled to be neutered on Friday but because of what happened to him the day before, Moo moved up on the schedule and took the Friday neuter appointment. This may be one of those things where everything turns out for the best.

Mr. Moo charmed all staff at the vet clinic, including the vet who was performing the surgery. He knew someone who had lost a Dane a while back and contacted them to tell them about Moo. They came to meet Moo before I picked him up at the end of the day and they had already submitted an adoption application on line. It's not a done deal quite yet, but it sure looks like a good prospect.

Moo was very good with everyone he met. The only bad thing that happened wasn't his fault, but his scrotum began to swell right after the surgery and it has continued to get larger over night. It now looks like a large orange hanging between his legs. It will eventually shrink up, but it doesn't happen overnight. He will be confined to his big crate for a few days.

Meanwhile, Tuck continues to improve. He's wagging his tail again and his appetite is definitely back, but he's not yet bearing weight on the leg, although this morning he's holding it a bit closer to a normal position. Fortunately he seems content with his big bed space fenced off in a corner of the kitchen. He's been very good with letting me apply the warm compresses 2-3 times a day.

Our house is now a post-op ward and I'm playing nurse to two Great Dane patients this weekend.

Has anyone recommended the frozen peas for swollen balls?
