Rough Day

Zack the boxer got neutered on Tuesday. It was a rough day for the sweet boy. Although he clearly had what appeared to be a full scrotum, it only contained one testicle. When that occurs, it's assumed that the second one is retained inside somewhere, so they open him up and go looking. They looked around but found nothing. That made for a more invasive surgery than an ordinary neuter, and a lot more time under anesthesia. When I picked him up at the end of the day he was still zonked out.

He came home and managed to walk inside on his own. I led him over to one of the big beds and he just laid down and didn't move much until morning. I didn't even try to feed him that evening. Clay said that when he left pre-dawn the next morning, Zach sort of lifted his head and acknowledged his presence but didn't get up. I came down later and he got up and I walked him outside on a leash. He peed and then went back inside and I offered a very light breakfast along with his pain pill. He ate it all and probably would have eaten more. He continued to perk up during the day and even made the trip back upstairs. He ate a normal meal for dinner and seems to be back to near normal this evening.

He's on activity restriction, indoors with only leash walks outdoors, and will remain so until his adoption on Sunday. He is just as sweet as he appears.

The early morning light hitting the tree tops across the pasture.

The trees are mostly bare, but the early morning light makes them look they are full of
brightly colored fall foliage.

Home at last. Maya and the other dogs checked him out.
Mostly he needed to sleep it off.

They also removed a growth under a dew claw on his right front paw.
So he had a sore foot on top of everything else.
