Danes and more

Maze arrived here Thursday morning. She's been getting along fine, sleeping in the bedroom at night, and gradually learning the rules of bedroom etiquette and protocol that have been fashioned by Della and Maya over the years but never written down. It basically comes down to this: Maya's bed is Maya's bed. Della's bed is whichever other bed she wants at any given moment and that is subject to change, sometimes several changes per night. Maze has been navigating this confusing labyrinth with great tolerance and deference to her seniors, but she's also been on a hunger strike. She came with her own food so there's been no change and I've even put some of her canned food on it to sweeten the deal, but she wasn't having it. Maze has a bit of weight to spare so I haven't been worried about it, but she's also been quite active since she came here so I knew she must be getting hungry. She finally ended the hunger strike this evening and ate a good serving of dry and canned food. Let's hope that's the last of this hunger strike nonsense. The other dogs, especially her mother, are more than happy to eat all the food that Maze leaves behind if I don't get it picked up fast enough.

Oakley. I love the white end of her tail.

Oakley arrived with diarrhea so I was feeding her sparingly in the beginning, but that seems to be resolved and she certainly isn't on any hunger strike. I've been slowly increasing the amount of food she gets but she's signaling that she would gladly eat as much as I offered. She has been good indoors and in her crate at night. She needs to be crated because she's a bit of counter surfer. She will go looking for anything that might be edible.

Paige

Paige is a very sweet pup. She follows Oakley everywhere, but she seeks out attention from me. She's eating well and has been good indoors and good in the crate at night. She and Oakley both need to gain weight and Paige is actively growing still, so I may start feeding those two dogs three times per day. Paige is just a very nice girl; I haven't seen any bad behavior from her to date.

Bailey is feeling good again. I'm not letting her out to run yet, but she's now loose in the house instead of being crated and that means she's now encountering the three new Danes for the first time and getting acquainted. Learning to meet and accept incoming dogs through the revolving door of rescue is something that Bailey will need to learn. She is a bit defensive and protective of position as Baby Girl. I think this is mostly a lack of experience issue and that's something that we can work on around here. Word is that another Dane, a male this time, may be headed this way next week. Our Danish cup  runneth over.

Paisley's nose is making progress, with occasional setbacks.
It's sort of a two steps forward, one step back scenario,
but it's more healed now than any time that I've had her.
