Della update

I didn't mean to give any false sense of hope with my post on Monday after Della's vet appointment. I didn't have any real hope myself, but I wasn't quite prepared to accept that Della, the indomitable force of nature that she is, had bone cancer. We talked to the vet again on Tuesday and nothing had really changed except that my sense of acceptance had come along over the past 24 hours. Three vets had looked at the x-rays and all had the same conclusion. Still, I did opt to send them out to be read by a radiologist, who submitted a report today saying what we already knew.

We're loaded up on pain relieving drugs, canned dog food, and human fast food to keep Della comfortable and happy for as long as that is possible. This morning she seemed to seriously want to go on the morning walk but I took Elvis and Woody instead. Clay brought home food from Burger King (she's not living on this, it's just a daily treat), as well as large box of frozen sliders and chicken nuggets that we can just warm up at home. The last time she was outside this afternoon we noticed that she was actually touching that bad leg to the ground as she walked rather than carrying it in a completely non-weight bearing manner. So I think that means that we must have the pain meds about right for now.

Della is still Della. She's got a leg that's failing her but nothing else about this girl is even the least bit different than it's ever been. She loves people and attention, so if anyone wants to visit you would be very welcome.

Della has now had cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets from both McDonald's and Burger King. The only preference she has expressed is "more."
