Woody's time

Woody is a purebred German Shepherd Dog, between one and two years old (best guess), crate trained, house trained, good with other dogs around here, we have no idea about cats, kids, poultry, or livestock. Woody has been neutered and made current on vaccines. He's heartworm negative. Woody has got a sweet and friendly demeanor, and seems like he must have been someone's well-loved companion at one time. We aren't sure how or why he became a stray who was never reclaimed. It seems that someone cared about this dog, or else he's just an extraordinary dog who loves people in spite of not having had good ones in his past. 

It's fruitless to speculate about a dog's past, all we can do is meet them where they are now and go forward from there. Woody meets us in a good place, he seems very well socialized with people and just wants someone worthy with whom to form that shepherd/human bond. I've had hundreds of foster shepherds over the past 20+ years and Woody's personality is as good as any I've seen. Shepherds are intelligent dogs and require an owner who is at least slightly smarter, as well as one who is willing to put in some time and effort in training. The real reward from that is the lifelong bond that will be formed with the dog.
