Farewell to the fawn

Bastian in his crate before leaving.
Bastian the fawn
I've been referring to Bastian as the fawn dog because he looks and acts like a frightened little fawn.  He's a sweet boy, but he's very shy and isn't fast to trust strangers.

Today I drove him to Gainesville to meet his new foster home.  He will have more attention and get better socialized there.  He looks so much better already, although that's really just the prednisone talking at this point.  The test will be how he is when he tapers off the pred, and when the antibiotics run out, but they got three more weeks to go.  He's on a hypoallergenic diet and getting an antihistamine too, so between all that I hope he's on the road to recovery and normalcy.

You can see that he will be a great looking
dog when he fills out and grows into his ears.
We ran into Betty
 (former foster) in the
parking lot where we
did the swap.
The new foster home is really what he needed.  I sort of suspect that a lot of his problems may have been related to the home he came from because as soon as he came here he was no longer scratching, licking, or chewing himself.

Apparently he's already playing ball in the new home and learning some house rules.

Bastian meeting Betty.  She looked great! and was happy to see me.

Bastian's former home clearly didn't do "everything" to help him. But they did do one smart thing, which was give him up to someone who would actually care about him. What kind of weird name is Bastian anyway?? I hope he feels better soon.

He's really adorable! I hope that he starts to feel better now that he will be getting love and attention! God Bless you!

How's Lady doing? Isn't she the dog who had the weak hindquarters? I hope she's improving.
