Harvey's Vet Visit

Heading to the car Wednesday morning.
Harvey came with an up to date vaccine record. The only thing standing between him and being ready to find a new home was his testicles and they came off today. He's still super drunk this evening and is sleeping it off as I'm writing this. Tomorrow he will probably be back to his usual self but he'll be spending a few days strictly indoors with no running to make sure things heal up as they should.
Harvey puts his front end up into the car but
wants assistance with the back end. He doesn't
need it, but he turns his head and gives you
that "little help?" look.

I long for the day when there's no dogs being put down in shelters, no dogs in rescue groups, no strays or homeless companion animals. When that day comes there will be a need to breed dogs like Harvey to perpetuate the breed. This is not that day and I doubt that day will arrive in my lifetime, not in this country anyway. The only way we can be sure that Harvey will not be an unwittingly contributor to the problem due to an irresponsible owner ("I wanted to let him do it just one time"), or a careless owner ("He got away from me and got to the neighbor's dog before I could stop them"), was the surgery that he had today. It's a lot easier on the males than the female dogs, but it's still surgery and Harvey is feeling its after effects this evening.
At the vet's office for intake, Wednesday morning.
Post-op pics, in recovery.

He looks like he just woke up with a hangover
following a rough night on the town; an unlit
cigarette stub hanging from his mouth, and a
bandage on his leg that he has no memory of
and no idea how it got there.
We've all been there.

Here he is arriving home in the back of Clay's car. He was
in no hurry to get out, but he did get out and get to the house
under his own power.

He was not really interested in company, but
that's not really an option at our house.
Everyone had to check him out.

After everyone welcomed him home, I ran the other dogs out
of the kitchen to give Harvey some peace and quiet.

He initially crashed on the cool tile floor but
then relocated to one of the dog beds.
