Diamond Days

Diamond rides really nicely in the back of the
van. She stands and looks around, eventually
she lays down, but she's not nervous and she
doesn't bark or get car sick.
Diamond has had a couple busy days this week.

On Thursday she was invited to appear on a radio show in Charlottesville. We made the trip, did the very brief appearance as the CYK Rescue Pet of the Week, stopped in to meet Clay's mother, and then stopped at Green Dogs on the way home.
It's not a pretty face in this condition, but she's sweet and I
hope we can get her looking better soon.

I wanted Erica to look at her because Diamond is either in heat or pregnant and I've been particularly concerned about the latter. We decided to schedule a vet visit for an exam and some blood work. Her coat is thin at best, which could just be due to the poor nutrition she's had until lately, but it could also indicate a thyroid problem. Also, her back legs are stiff so I think she needs to be on something for that and they always want to do blood work before starting Carprofen or something like that.

Friday we headed to town again for the vet visit. An ultrasound showed no puppies so that was a huge relief. They drew blood for some tests that we should hear about on Monday.

It was good to spend some time one-on-one with Diamond. She's a very nice dog, seems like a solid temperament, very friendly with new people, kids, other dogs. Her coat and skin are a mess. She's probably allergic to everything although she's doesn't seem to itch and scratch. Hopefully some good nutrition on a sustained basis, flea control, and being spayed will transform her. Time will tell.

This afternoon Clay and I cleaned out the shed in Dane Land, took down the crates and put in nice cozy beds in hopeful anticipation of cooler weather.

Meeting Berta after the radio spot.

She's gets in the van willingly and without too much
difficulty, but those back legs are stiff and the step up is tough.

She's a solid, well-built dog. When she's in good shape
she will be very pretty.

No problem, at least with a dog-savvy kid like Finn.

At the vet's office.

The blue wall is a nice background for a white dog.

That's Karma in front with her butt on one bed and her
front on another. Cinderella standing behind her, and
Diamond on the big bolster bed on the right.
