Sucky Saturday

I'm doing something wrong.  Saturday morning the phone rang and an hour later I was picking up Bubba from the supposed adopter.  I actually had serious reservations about them and I guess I was right, so I'm glad he's back.  They had no committment to the dog and he's too good of a dog to go to someone who isn't worthy of him.

I got back just in time to load up Luke, Buddy, and King, along with Bubba, and head over to Richmond for an adoption event.  Bubba did his best and charmed the pants off one couple who had recently lost their 15 year old shepherd.  Luke was good; King was good, which somewhat suprised me; and Buddy was adorable.  A young couple who had written to me about Buddy came to meet him, and they want him, and I liked them, but they are out of town all next week and couldn't take him.  King got hot, tired, and grumpy just slightly ahead of me, so we all came home.

Hot, tired, frustrated, discouraged, and more than a little pissed off, I laid in bed and watched last week's episode of Glee, "Grilled Cheeus", which was brilliant but depressing.  I finished my work for the week (more frustration), then went outside and shot another video of Trooper and Buster playing to remind myself why I do this.  Tomorrow we do it all again, in Gainesville this time, possibly with Holly too, if I can convince one of them to ride nicely in the front seat without barfing on me.

Hang in there, Brent. You are doing everything right, it's just that some forever homes turn up sooner than others. Think about the VGSR reunion, with all the dogs and humans there whose lives have been enriched by what you do. And all the people at the golf tournament who value your work to the tune of $20k, even in the midst of this recession. Tomorrow is another day ....
