Garden Peak

These pictures, taken about a week ago, probably show the container garden at its peak for the year. The heat has taken a toll on it over the past week. Some plants don't take kindly to wilting down, even if resuscitated by water in the evening or the next morning. Some others are just getting overgrown and pushed out by some of the more aggressive growers, e.g. sweet potato vine.

If we get the promised break from the heat this weekend, my plan is to go through the garden, deadhead everything that needs it, cut back the tall growing zinnias, and generally give it a pruning. It should continue to thrive throughout the rest of the summer, but I think the peak of the spring growth and blooms is behind us.
