Melly gets adopted!

Melly got adopted today! An applicant couple who had missed out on another dog took a look at Melly and thought she sounded perfect. There is a small dog in the applicants' home, so I took Melly over to Green Dogs to meet the infamous Catdog Saturday afternoon. I really had no doubt about Melly because she's a sweet girl who loves everything and everyone. True to form, Melly passed the small dog test with flying colors and even took and passed the cat test for extra credit. Sunday morning the applicants came for her, brought their small dog along, and everyone left happy.

They wanted an older dog, the woman has a strong caretaker mentality, and I think they are a very good match for Melly. I took along two unopened cans of green beans and explained the diet that Melly has been on. I think they will continue it so she should continue to drop some pounds. I'm sorry I didn't have a beginning weight on her but I could find nothing in her records. I don't have a way to weigh her now either, and she's still a big girl, but if you look at "before" and "now" pictures of her, you can definitely see a change.

Much like our house, you can't just meet one dog, you have to meet them all.
Melly was fine with all of them.

There was a cat nearby so Melly met that one too.

Here's Melly with the new small dog in her life.

Here's a picture that shows Melly's coat and body condition shortly after arrival.
She was barrel shaped and barrel size. Her head looked tiny on her.

And here's Melly today. She's still a big girl, but she has a waistline now that she didn't
have before. Her head is a better fit for her body now too.
She could still stand to lose more weight and it would help her quality of life and
longevity, but she's off to a good start and I think the new owners will keep at it.

Here's Melly loaded up and ready to start her new life.
We wish her many years of health, happiness, and love.

All that remains is to recite the adoption benediction from "The Cider House Rules":

Melly has found a new home.

We should be very happy for Melly.

Good night, Melly.

Awww, such a sweet good-bye! Melly did great yesterday and was a perfect girl overnight! I will definitely keep up her special diet! We want her healthy and active for a long, long time. She has taken many walks around the boundary perimeter already and seems happy with everything! She's a dream come true. Thank you again!
