Visiting hours at the hospital

Ranger
Since I work from home and am here most of the time, visiting hours are wide open.  Ranger's prospective adopter came to see him again today.  She brought him two big bags of the treats that he seems to like and a couple other food items to try.  He does seem to be a little more interested in food today.  There is poop in his kennel so he's been eating enough to produce that.  I gave him some of Zachary's raw food today and he ate some of that but didn't finish it.  We had another round of administration of fluids and have now finished two bags of that.  I think that his nose felt a little more normal today, so I hope his temp is down and he's turning the corner on whatever this is.

Schatze

Schatze was spayed on Tuesday and her foot was xrayed because she's been limping since I got her.  The spay went well, but she's still pretty subdued by it all.  She's in a crate in my office full time except for pee breaks, which she takes solo in the dog yard.  She didn't eat this morning so I put her pills in some peanut butter and crammed them in her mouth.  I may offer her a little food this evening but mostly we are going to have more medication.  The foot was fine except that one toenail and the nail bed were infected and inflammed.  I'm sure it's painful but she's a tough girl and has been romping around with the boys on it for the past couple weeks.  I have my doubts that she's as friendly with female dogs as she is with males, but she's now sleeping next to Star at night and is sharing the office with Molly during the day, so we will see once she gets feeling better.

Star
Star's prospective adopter came to visit her this evening.  Star is putting on some weight now and is probably fine, but she shared a kennel with Ranger for several days so I want to make sure she is healthy before sending her to a home with two other dogs.

Cooper

Buddy and Koa went to the vet today for fecal and heartworm tests, all negative. I have another appointment with Star for tomorrow for the same tests, then everyone will be current and ready to go, as soon as the lepto alert is over.  No word on that yet, maybe the end of this week.  While we were at the vet we ran into the woman (the Saint) who adopted Cooper and Teddy.  Cooper, shown here, goes every place with her.  Teddy is a stay at home dog, but he is now coming reliably into the house such that he no longer needs to trail the long line that would enable her to catch him if necessary.  He still doesn't like to be touched and is upset if things in his world are out of place, but he and the old girl dog snuggle up and sleep together and he and Cooper play together.  He has adapted and mostly he's found someone will to accomodate his very special needs.

I hope everyone is healthy and can move to their new homes as soon as possible. All of them are such beautiful dogs. Seems like good news that Schatzi is getting along with male dogs.
I don't think it is uncommon for a dog not to like other dogs they are not familiar with, or for that matter anything else they have not been socialized with at a young age e.g. garden sculptures, strollers, small children, people with sunglasses...I think the key is as an owner to know what sets your dog off and anticipate dicey situations.

Hurray for the prospective adopters who can accept a few bumps in the road!

As it turned out the lepto was negative. Two of your fosters were adopted. Good luck on Sunday at the VGSR adoption event.
