Into the Woods

Into the Woods

Now playing at the Pleasant Grove Playhouse, for a recurring but irregular engagement.

Co-Starring: the dueling divas, Mighty Maya and The Indomitable Della.

Music and Lyrics by: various

Book by:  Brent Jacques

Act I

Once upon a time, two canines and their human set out on a walk in the woods. A beautiful Great Dane with the regal name of Della wished to survey her domain and greet any humans who might be using the plentiful walking trails or sportsing fields. Of course, what Della meant by "greeting" was affording said humans the opportunity to pay homage to her, to touch her silky coat, and exclaim about her beauty. Della also harbors a non-so-secret wish to consume any magical bunnies that might cross her path.

The older and wiser of the canine pair was the Mighty Maya. She has been walking these trails for many years, knows them like the back of her paw, and is quite upfront about her wish to run off any deer that dare intrude upon her woods.

Their human merely wishes to burn calories and lower his blood sugar in the hope that he could have a normal dinner once again sometime soon.

With their wishes tucked in the back of their minds, the three set out to see what the woods held in store for them today.

A magic mushroom pushed up through the packed soil in the center of the path.
Clearly a sign, of something.

The girls pushed on, occasionally changing positions but not enough to
make leash handling difficult for their human.

Maya always moves with a sense of purpose,
determined to get on down the trail and see what awaits.

Interval

Stopping for a drink at Sparky's Watering Hole is always refreshing.

Act II

Well met!, fellow traveler of the woods.

Four ears and four eyes at two different heights, nothing escapes their notice.

3.5 miles

The woods seemed to be devoid of humans, bunnies, and deer today, probably because the middle of the day was too early for the humans, deer, and bunnies to be out to play. That's all right. It was a good walk and the human burned some calories.

It was a mellow walk in the woods with an appropriately mellow soundtrack.

I enjoy Traffic's "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" in four formats: the original 1971 album (my brother's); a cassette tape; a CD; and streaming in my Apple library.
