Beastie-Bessie-Bete

We had a visitor on Sunday, a former foster dog. She was another rescue of The HOWS Project, originally living on a chain with the name of Beastie. (She came from the same owners as the white shepherd who had been painted blue.)

When she came here in November, 2020, we re-named her Bessie. She was adopted by a wonderful couple who had adopted from me twice before. She is now named Bete Noire, or just Bete, and she lives in Virginia Beach. Her mom brought her along on a weekend to visit old friends and they stopped by here on their way home. It was great to see them both.

Bete was a bit nervous about being here, whether she remembered it or not, I'm not sure, but she stuck close to her mom and it was clear that she was bonded to her and happily so.

I love placing dogs with repeat adopters. There are a lot of two time adopters out there, and several with three of our former fosters, and a few with even more. I feel more pressure with each subsequent adoption to make sure that repeat adopters get really great dogs, but the thing is, they are who makes them into really great dogs, great people make great dogs. I really have very little to do with it, except choosing good people when they adopt their first dog.

Anyway, happy first day of Spring! Love you Bete Noire.

I went back and read old blog posts from when we first took in Bessie.
She was Journey's kennel mate and helped him at least begin to trust us.

Here she is with Maya after a hike.

Settling into her new home in December, 2020.

On her visit her on Sunday.

Sitting right next to her mom, untethered but clearly attached.
