Norman and River

I took Norman to a doggie Easter egg hunt today sponsored by Natural Pet Essentials. We were late so much of the action was over, and that was fine, I mostly just wanted to get him out in public to see some people. He loved that and I saw a lot of people I knew. It was held at Chris Greene Lake north of Charlottesville so after spending some time around the people we went off for a walk.

I had the gentle leader on him and I can control him with it, but it is still a major effort that soon exhausts my left arm. We walked for about a mile and half on some trails through the woods and I was thinking of doing some more, but when we passed the parking lot again I gave up and just headed to the van. It was enough of an effort just to get him back into the crate, I didn't have the energy for any more Norman wrangling today.

When we got home I put him back out with the shepherd boys for a while but he wasn't happy and just started barking so I brought him inside and shoved him into his crate.

When I first got Norman I had been attracted to him because of how much he reminded me of a former foster, River. I haven't made that comparison since then however, because River was shy, sweet, and gentle. Norman is sweet, but he's anything but gentle. I'm glad he isn't scared of humans the way River was, and I'm really glad he's good with other dogs, but I sure wish he was a bit more reserved.

Here are some old and new pictures of River, and some of Norman from today.

Norman, from today.

River, when we had him as a foster.

River had been saved from a Korean dog meat farm.
He was very underweight when we first got him.
Here he is laying calmly on the floor at Patch.

Norman loved the people and was good with all the other dogs he met today.

River had been very adverse to human contact at first. Norman loves it.

River now weighs a whopping 122 pounds!

River seems very happy and content in his new home.
I hope that Norman will be too, hopefully soon.

Norman is still very much a puppy. Look at those bright white teeth.
