Doc's adoption

Clay and I took Doc to his new home Sunday afternoon. It's a great home with a proven track record because they have one of Della's puppies, plus another, even larger Great Dane. Doc looks like a very small dog in comparison.

There are multiple large dog beds in every room in the house. This is really the first time
I saw Doc using his bloodhound nose going over something and getting acquainted with smells.

The big guy is Bodhi. He was known as Modelo when we had him as part of Della's 12-pack.

This gives a good idea of their relative size. And Bodhi is the smaller of the two Danes in the home.

Here's Doc after dipping his face and ears into a bucket of fresh, cool water.

It will be interesting to see if he develops a proper bloodhound bay after treeing squirrels.

Bodhi is big all over, tall, long, sleek, and shiny.
I don't know if he remembered us, but he was certainly happy and friendly.

Doc relaxed very quickly and was soon carrying his tail like this.
Notice the tiny white tip on the very end of the tail.

His ears are dark because they are wet.

Doc is now Dexter. He and Bodhi are close in age and I expect will become play buddies.

The steely blue Dane on the right is Neo. He is even bigger than Bodhi.

This is the saddest part of the whole fostering process. Dexter is looking out the window
as we are leaving without him. I know he didn't shed any tears, but there must be
some feeling of abandonment, no matter how brief and short-lived.
He is in a great home now and I'm sure he knows it already.

He certainly doesn't seem distraught.
The bandage on his foot is due to a cut he received here, courtesy of Nemo, earlier in the day.

p.s. Serena is fine. She ate chicken and rice this morning and again this evening. Tomorrow she'll start back on dog food. Cosmo had us up twice last night, but no accidents in the house, thank you very much. He may have been going down the same road so he fasted today and got some meds along with Serena. I hope we've nipped it in the bud and no one else will come down with it. I washed out the water bowl and ran all the food dishes through the dishwasher today. If I could get them to wear masks, I would.
