Priorities

Well, things don't always go according to plan. Twix was returned to us Monday evening after being adopted on Saturday. Apparently things were great for the first 24 hours, he was fine in the crate at night, both Saturday and Sunday nights. But when they were both gone during the day on Monday he broke out of the crate and chewed on some woodwork. They couldn't, wouldn't, manage the situation or give the dog time to adjust. Their pristine house was their priority, not the dog.

Who among us lives in a house that doesn't bear the mark of a dog?

I'm disappointed, but not mad. We can do better for Twix and we will.

It's funny that about the time that he was returned, I ran into this video on TikTok:

And I'm reminded of this story about the dog below, Tevya, originally known as Diego. Tevya's owners returned home more than once to find their home littered with fluff because he had completely destroyed a dog bed, blanket, or pillow. He passed away a while back, after they had had him for over ten years. One of the last pictures I saw was him with their two little girls who had been born years after they had adopted him. The girls were playing dress up with Tevya who was patiently and cooperatively wearing whatever they put on him. I'm quite sure that he was worth far more to that family than the beds and whatever else he destroyed when he was new.

It's all a matter of priorities. We'll find Twix a home where he is a priority.
